The School Days program for 2008 is entitled "From SILENCE to SOUND through SCIENCE." It is directed towards elementary grade students and their teachers and will impact the understanding of students and teachers about the properties of sound and will offer interdisciplinary learning in the fields of arts and culture, specifically film and music, as well as history and science. Hands-on experiences will offer the participants the opportunity to understand sound production through science, and with its application through music, to recognize its place in history as well as in their daily lives and in their future. The program will enhance the sound curriculum required in elementary schools by the Michigan Curriculum Framework benchmarks.
This year we will be joined by Cheri Leach of Raven Hill Discovery Center who will present hands-on scientific projects for students to learn about sound. Cheri works as a mentor to both youngsters and teachers and has been a science workshop presenter for 20 years. Tom Kaufmann will again make his Tinkertune's Musical Instrument Petting Zoo available to the students for further understanding and enjoyment of musical sound. Andy Struble, the museum curator, will be working with students to enjoy and enhance the sound track for a silent movie.

The Music House Museum's School Days is a 90-minute tour, available for student groups up to 60 students per group and teachers. The museum personnel are able to pair up smaller groups when scheduling.
